In the 20th Century, Scandinavian Airlines was just one of several airlines that was spawned after World War II. These new airlines did not let any constraints or obstacles stand in their way. They moved forward against whatever odds they encountered. Not just anyone can be in charge of an airline and make it operate at a profit. It requires a hard-working, efficient, organized person. Two characteristics that consistently show up in the most successfully run airlines are a readiness to take risks and make innovative decisions. That is exactly what SAS, Scandinavian Airline System, did when they launched the first passenger flights over the polar region. The launching of this trans-polar route made Scandinavian Airlines very well known and was regarded as a real publicity coup for the airline that increased their business and profits. We will bring you more enlightening details about Scandinavian Airlines in this article.

All airlines carry the flag for their countries of origin in some respects. As is natural with most people, they will have pride in their origins. The business foundation of Scandinavian Airlines is rooted in cooperation and sharing. There are a few partners that are involved, one of which is Denmark. Combining the best of both worlds, including private and public funding, this company is here to stay. SAS, or Scandinavian Airlines, is the largest air carrier based in Scandinavian territory. The airline owns a fleet of 198 aircraft and flies to almost 180 destinations around the world in 30 countries.

Scandinavian Airlines did what any other airline would do and actually has done around the world. They sought ways to expand and capture as much market share as possible. To that end, they took care of business and eventually succeeded in their efforts to garner the domestic flight routes within Scandinavia. The airline achieved that feat by simply gaining either partial or full control of the smaller airlines operating in their domestic areas. Air Canada and Continental Airlines are now part of the SAS.

It's no secret that SAS has joined many smart alliances over the years. However, it's important that we not forget about the code sharing agreements with other airlines as well. This simply means a legally binding agreement is created between two airlines to the benefit of each. This agreement makes it possible for passengers to fly on either airline with the revenues being passed to the company who holds the ticket or the parent company. SAS has such agreements with Lufthansa, Austrian and United airlines. Catching connection flights becomes less of a hassle with these code sharing agreements which often include schedule integration. Maintaining consistent and reliable flights with the company that is based in three countries can have its difficulties. Despite the obvious complications that could arise, this company continues to do what it has from the start. Part of its overall tenacity, SAS continues to provide strength and diversity. This company has many business contracts that make it stable and productive like never before.
