There are a number of things that can fail with a Playstation 3 - hard disk problems, laser problems in the Blu-Ray drive, and networking troubles are not unusual. The most bothersome problem for a lot of consumers is what has been called the "Yellow Light of Death" or YLOD, for short. You turn the unit on, the green light immediately turns yellow, and nothing else takes place. A similar problem can happen if the light should turn red. In either case, the unit no longer operates. If your Playstation 3 remains under warranty, the optimal option would be to return the unit to Sony. They will fix the problem and return the unit to you. If your unit is not covered by the factory warranty, you can still send the unit to Sony, but the repair will set you back a couple of hundred dollars. In addition, you'll be without the use of your PS3 for as much as six weeks, your hard disk will almost certainly be erased and reformatted, and you will receive no guarantee that the issue will not happen again. This is an expensive, time intensive repair without any guarantee. Fortunately, there are many options available. It seems that many causes of the ylod can be fixed by the consumer. If you do a quick search on Google, you'll find a number of sites offering information about how to fix the problem. What many of these sites fail to tell you, though, is that there are many causes for the YLOD issue and nearly as many answers. There is no single solution that will fix all YLOD problems. Something new in the marketplace known as PS3 Lights Fix provides a complete repair guide to most, if not all, known PS3 trouble shooting issues. It covers a number of causes of the YLOD issue as well as hard drive problems, HDMI problems, networking complications, Blu-Ray drive problems and much more. The manual includes both written directions as well as detailed videos that show you, step-by-step, how you can fix the problems yourself using resources you are currently likely to have around the house. Additionally, the creators of PS3 Lights Fix provide a members discussion board where you are able to interact with other PS3 owners to share information. Should you have a Ps3 with some type of problem and it's currently under warranty, go ahead and, send it back to Sony and allow them to repair it. If your unit has run out of warranty, you may want to consider attempting to do the repair yourself as opposed to sending it back to the factory for a costly repair that includes no guarantees that the problem won't happen again. |
